Shortcut to Work in Progress Day Abstracts

Work in Progress Day is to be held Thursday 31st May 2007 in the School of Historical Studies, John Medley Building, parallel sessions also in the Australian Centre, 9.15am-5.00pm.

The Work in Progress Day builds upon established traditions in the former departments and will bring together the SHS postgraduate cohort in an academic setting for the first time.  It provides postgraduate students from History, the Australian Centre, and Classics and Archaeology with the opportunity to present an aspect of their research to their peers, in a formal, yet supportive, environment.

All confirmed PhD candidates (those who have already undergone  confirmation) are expected to present a paper at a Work-in-Progress Day each year.  Masters students are strongly encouraged to present a paper as well. For those who have just begun their research, giving a presentation is not obligatory, but interested first-years are most welcome to present. Bear in mind that the School of Graduate Studies requires that all PhD candidates present a research paper by the time of their 12 month confirmation. Furthermore, all students are also required to have presented a paper in their departments by the end of their candidature.

A second Work-in-Progress Day will be held at the end of semester two, providing another opportunity to present, particularly for students who have begun their candidature only recently.

Even if you do not intend to present this time around, please come along to support your fellow postgraduates. The experience of presenting in a conference-like environment is an invaluable part of your research training.  Please get in touch with David Goodman if you want to discuss any aspect of your participation in the day. Alternatively, you can email the WIPD Committee at WIPD-abstracts@hotmail.com.
