The 2008 Macgeorge Lecture
Paul Montford and Bertram Mackennal:
Making sculpture in 1920s Melbourne
In 1926, Marian, wife of the sculptor Paul Montford, had insisted that when Australia’s most famous sculptor, Bertram Mackennal, made a brief return to the city of his birth, he would certainly pay them a visit.
He did not.
A fascinating insight into the politics and practicalities of making sculpture in interwar Melbourne.
A lecture by Dr Catherine Moriarty, Principal Research Fellow, Faculty of Arts & Architecture, University of Brighton and Melbourne University Macgeorge Fellow.
