Symposium
1968: Forty Years On
1968 was indeed a dramatic year. Student protests took place in Mexico City, Prague and the United States, while the Tet Offensive and the My Lai Massacre intensified public opposition to the American war in Vietnam and highlighted the ‘credibility gap’ of the Johnson Administration. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy were assassinated and there were violent demonstrations at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. In Paris, demonstrations by students and workers nearly brought down the French government.
Eras Journal and Melbourne Historical Journal invite you to attend an inter-disciplinary symposium to mark the 40th anniversary of the events of 1968. The symposium will bring together researchers interested in the historical, political and social analyses of this tumultuous year as well as those studying the broader themes of activism and revolution.
