Website: www.culturalconservation.unimelb.edu.au

The Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation (CCMC) is the only one of its kind in Australia, combining both theory and practice of cultural material conservation. The Centre has responsibility for the conservation of the University of Melbourne’s collections of cultural material and provides commercial conservation programs, treatments and advice for individuals and organisations. It has a strong research track record and active research programs, which include international collaborations. In addition, the Centre seeks to develop postgraduate research opportunities, relating to the broader issues of cultural preservation particularly for communities and cultures within the Asian-Pacific region.

CCMC students have access to local industry links and student internship opportunities with leading museums, galleries, archives and libraries, including Heritage Victoria. The program is unique in drawing on interdisciplinary expertise across the Arts and Science faculties and the Potter Museum of Art. Specialisations include conservation treatment of paintings, works on paper, frames and some object and architectural conservation; research and technical analysis; collection management reports and strategy plans.
