Website: www.cca.unimelb.edu.auThe Centre for Classics & Archaeology is one of the leading international centres for the study of the ancient world and provides students with a multi-disciplinary perspective on ancient Graeco-Roman, Aegean and Near Eastern civilisations. The study of Classics, Archaeology, Latin and Ancient Greek gives students insight and understanding into today’s world by exploring how ancient cultures have contributed to the development of the modern world. The only program of its kind in Australia, the Centre is home to cutting-edge research and field study undertaken by its staff, researchers and fellows, and is affiliated with institutions such as the Classical Association of Victoria (CAV) with whom it regularly collaborates on a variety of lectures and events.
Current projects range from fieldwork and archaeological surveys to the development of award-winning multimedia study resources. The Centre offers access to world-class research facilities in the Classics laboratory and opportunities exist to join academic staff on travel and fieldwork subjects locally and abroad. Principal areas of specialisation include: archaeology; religious, political and social life in ancient societies; classical literature and mythology; ancient ethnicity; gender and sexuality in the ancient world; Byzantine worlds; ceramic analysis; Latin and Ancient Greek.
